    Prowl & Play at the Phoenix Zoo

    Check out the Phoenix Zoo at night with the zoo’s Leapin’ Lagoon and Yakulla Caverns water attractions which will help keep you cool. Animal viewing and trails will be limited, but up-close experiences with small mammals, birds and reptiles will be available. For an additional fee, you can take a camel ride, meet a giraffe or take a Safari Train ride (till dusk).

    Little Explorers for kids:  Bugs

    Come out and learn more about mosquitoes, flies and other insects. The Ranger will teach about the differences of a variety of bugs at this hands-on event where participants will create their own arthropod.

    Details: Noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14. San Tan Mountain Regional Park, 6533 W. Phillips Road, Queen Creek. $6 vehicle park-entrance fee

     

    Valley of the Sun Juneteenth Celebration

    Come out for the annual Juneteenth party, which celebrates the ending of slavery in the United States. There will be live music and dance, guest speakers, a basketball tournament, food and retail vendors, a kids’ zone, a movie screening and more.

    Details: 5-9 p.m. Saturday, June 14. Eastlake Community Center, 1549 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix. Free.

     Father’s Day Run-Peoria

    The City of Peoria will be hosting a Father’s Day Run which will also include a kid’s run.  The 4 mile run will take place at Rio Vista Community Park.

    Details: 6 a.m. check-in; 7 a.m. 4-mile begins; 7:05 a.m. kid’s run begins, Sunday, June 15. Rio Vista Community Park, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria. $20 for 4-mile, $25 on race day; $10 for kid’s mile, $15 on race day.
