Cinco De Mayo Events May 5th, 2016

    Here in the Southwest, we’re no stranger to Taco Tuesdays and enjoying burritos, margaritas and tequila shots any day we like.

    But with Cinco de Mayo just around the corner, bars and restaurants are going all out with DJs, food and drink specials and plenty of tequila. Some spots will go all out with late-night dance parties, while others offer a more laid-back place to enjoy Mexican cuisine.

    Here are 19 places to have fun for Cinco de Mayo.

    Dos Gringos

    Each of the three cantinas will host its own event. The Tempe location has DJ Hazardous at 4 p.m. and DJ Eddie Lynn at 9 p.m. Mesa has DJ LT2 4-8 p.m. and DJ Jeff Jones at 8 p.m. The Chandler bar will host DJs from Droptop Entertainment from 5 p.m. to close. Each bar will feature plenty of tacos, drinks and games, and the Chandler and Mesa bars will have extended areas.

    El Hefe

    Both the Tempe and Scottsdale locations will have DJs T3, Squared and Cutswell on the turntables. The Tempe bar will feature $6 Don Julio shots, and the El Hefe in Scottsdale will sell shots of Don Julio for $8.

    Aunt Chilada’s

    The north-central Phoenix restaurant and bar hosts a big bash featuring “Tequila Sheila” slinging tequila shots, a street food taco bar and food tents, and performances from Esteban and James Otto. Ticket-holders get their first margarita, beer or bottled water for free.

    Whiskey Row

    The Western bar and club with two Valley locations is getting into the Cinco de Mayo spirit with $5 Cowboy Margaritas at the Scottsdale location, and DJ Steel performing at the Tempe location. With every purchase of a Dos XX beer, you’re entered to win two tickets to the Kenny Chesney concert on May 7.

    Old Town Gringos

    The two-story bar known for its ample patio space will celebrate Cinco de Mayo for three days, with tequila popsicles, chili pepper eating contests, prizes and giveaways, and music from Chad Freeman on Thursdayand Saturday.

    Sandbar Mexican Grill

    The beach cantina-inspired bars will host multiple parties for Cinco de Mayo. Chandler will feature performances by Kandy Man and Vanilla Spice on Thursday, and Saturday the bar will show the Kentucky Derby and Canelo vs. Kahn boxing match, and also host live bands and DJs. The Desert Ridge bar will host parties Thursday through Saturday nights, with the Days Weather Band and DJs on Friday, Kandy Man and Vanilla Spice performing Saturday, as well as the Canelo fight Saturday.

    Salt Tacos y Tequila

    Specials run all day on Cinco de Mayo and include $3 house margaritas, $2 bottles of Corona and Montejo draft beers, $2 carne asada and chicken tacos, and $4 Milagro tequila shots. A mariachi and DJ will perform, later in the night the bar will have an ice luge. The party continues on Saturday with $3 Montejo and Bud Light draft beers, and $4 shots of Milagro tequila, and a guest DJ will perform.

    Dillon Francis, electro house and moombahton DJ, best known best for his track “Get Low” with DJ Snake, will perform. His latest EP “This Mixtape is Fire,” features Skrillex, Chromeo and Calvin Harris. This concert is hosted by Live 101.5’s “The Morning Mess”, and tickets can only be won through the radio station.

    Enjoy all-day social hour pricing in the bar and a DJ all night. The first 100 people who bring at least five pesos can pay for their Casamigos Margarita with Mexican currency, limit two drinks per person.

    Calico Jack’s

    Calico Jack’s hosts the official Power 98.3 and 101.9 Cinco Bash featuring frozen T-shirt, jalapeño-eating and Sexy Senorita contests, with $1,000 in cash and prizes. DJ Izzy will play Top 40, Latin, salsa and hip-hop mixes, and all-day specials include $2 street tacos. Kids younger than 10 eat free 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sign up on the VIP list online, bring lots of friends with you to the bash and you could win a trip to Mexico.

    Cinco de (Barko) Mayo

    So this isn’t exactly a party, but it was too cute not to include. Bring your pup down to celebrate “Cinco de (Barko) Mayo” at the very dog-friendly O.H.S.O. Brewery in Phoenix, and enjoy a racing contest, dog prizes and treats. Mention Puff & Fluff to your server, and 20 percent of your bill will be donated to local rescue SNIFF.

    Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila

    The lively Mexican cantina hosts Mariachi Tierra Linda starting at 4 p.m., with $3 Tecate beers all day; tequila tastings from Hornitos, Herradura, Casa Noble and El Tesoro; and promotions and giveways.

    The Arizona institution will feature events at its nine Valley locations, but the big party is at the sprawling Tempe Depot Cantina restaurant and bar. Specials include $4 Patron shots and Dos XX lager or amber, $5 Margarita de Macayo cocktails and $8 Patron margaritas. There will be live music all day and the bar and patio will be open for the 21 and older crowd only starting at 3 p.m. The other Macayo locations will have the same drink specials and live entertainment as well.

    No Que No Mexican Grill

    The Scottsdale Mexican restaurant hosts its first Cinco de Mayo party with a mariachi band from 6 to 9 p.m., drink specials all day long and giveaways from Casa Noble tequila, Dos XX, Modelo and Corona.

    Loco Patron

    Both locations of Loco Patron will have beer and liquor specials and promotions going on all day, and a donkey will pay a visit to to the Mexican bars for patrons to snap selfies with. In Tempe, Mob Vs. Ballot Box will perform from 5 to 9 p.m. and DJs will take over at 9 p.m.

    Cinco de Mayo Rockfest

    Hosted by the Local Music Co-Op, the concert will feature performances by Jon Clay, Angels & Aliens, Cobalt Jelly and more. Guests can nosh on free pizza and nachos, and drink specials will run throughout the night.

    Cinco De Mayo Festival

    Celebrate the Battle of the Puebla with 100,000 other revelers in downtown Phoenix. The two-day festival has  plenty of food and drink, live music, games and more.

    Cinco de Mayo Comedy Nights

    Comedians Danny Serrano and Mary Fry host three nights of comedy in honor of Cinco de Mayo, with special guests Ernesto Ortiz and Gabe Biel. Armando Placencia will also perform Thursday night, and Tom Speaks will be part of the line-up on Saturday night.

    Cinco de Mayo at Los Sombreros

    Celebrate at Los Sombreros with five appetizers and five drinks for $5 each. The deal will be available on the restaurant’s patio.
